Bread: Cheese, Chive and Garlic Biscuits

From Shelly Carey

Ingredients
¼ cup chives, chopped
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup Crisco vegetable shortening
½ teaspoon minced garlic
¾ cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup milk
2 Tablespoons melted butter
½ teaspoon Garlic powder

Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt with fork. Cut in shortening with a fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheese, chives and garlic. Add milk and stir until mixture forms a soft dough that pulls away from the side of the bowl.

Turn dough onto floured surface; knead quickly 10 times. Measure each biscuit with 1/3 cup measuring cup and drop onto a cookie sheet. Mix melted butter and ½ teaspoon garlic powder together in a bowl. Brush top of each biscuit with melted butter and bake on ungreased cookie sheet 12-15 minutes.
